Surgical
Services
At
Jefferson Memorial Hospital surgical service provides outpatient and inpatient
surgical care for patients of all ages. Our Operating
Room features 2 specially equipped surgical suites and
an endoscopy suite. Appointments are scheduled through
the surgeons' office. In addition to regular surgical
appointments, emergency and urgent surgical care is provided
as well as helicopter services and trauma.

Major,
Minor and Elective Surgery
Surgery
is used to treat injuries, diseases and or other disorders,
which can be classified as major, minor or elective. The
recovery time for major surgery may involve a stay in the
ICU (Incentive Care Unit) or another part of the hospital.
The recovery time for minor surgery is short, and patients
may return to their usual activities before long with doctor's
orders and permission. Elective surgery is a procedure that
may be consider helpful, but not essential to a patient's

Surgical
Nursing Care and Surgical Team
Perioperative
nurses have expertise in preparing patients for surgery,
providing family support and discussing how the patient
will be cared for throughout the surgical experience. Their
priority is patient safety, and they strive to make their
patients comfortable, safe and informed throughout the surgical
stay.
Surgical technicians assist the surgeons in all the
technical aspects of a patient's surgical care. All of Jefferson Memorial's
surgical technicians are highly skilled to ensure that consistent
quality standards are achieved while consistently monitoring
and ensuring the sterile integrity to optimize patient care.
Anesthesia Providers are responsible for ensuring
patient pain management, administration of medication, patient
breathing, monitoring and vital signs.
Surgical Posting Secretary schedules and assist in planning
of the surgical day.
Central Processing Technician are highly trained and skilled providers
of surgical instrument and hospital equipment care and sterility.
Surgeons perform skilled surgical care within their
respective specialties.

Outpatient
Surgery and Clinic Services
Advances
in surgical techniques have made it possible for patients
to have a variety of surgical and invasive procedures performed
in an operating room setting or clinic and yet be ready
to go home to the comfort of their homes on the same day.
This care is provided by Jefferson Memorial Hospital surgical outpatient and clinical
staff under the direction of surgical services and includes:
- Small
invasive surgical procedures such as: mole removal, suture
removal and dressing changes.
- IV
medication infusion therapy
Jefferson Memorial Hospital
has been offering patients care since 1904 and continues
to strive and advance its services in a convenient, comfortable
setting. The outpatient department also provides support
to the surgical department for same day surgery recovery
in a quite semi-private room under the supervision of highly
skilled registered nurses. The staff will ensure patient
comfort while informed on post surgical care instructions
and information is provided.
