Comprehensive Care
Offering Comprehensive Care — Close to Home
An integral part of the WVUH-East Regional Cancer Program is our Oncology Inpatient Unit and Outpatient Cancer Treatment Center. Located on the 2nd Floor of City Hospital, this specially dedicated area is designed to offer a home-like atmosphere for the patients under our care.
Our nursing staff has special preparation and interest in the care of cancer patients. Many of the registered nurses are nationally certified for chemotherapy and biotherapy, with several holding national certification through the Oncology Nursing Society and/or certified in Medical Surgical Nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Continuing education for treatment protocols and oncology related subjects are ongoing to keep abreast of the newest cancer treatments. Our staff members are a valuable source of information and emotional support for our patients and their families.
Inpatient Care —Patients requiring admission for chemotherapy treatments, complications of cancer treatment, pain management, end of life care and those requiring surgical intervention as part of their treatment plan are cared for on the Oncology Inpatient Unit. The unit has flexible visiting hours and family members are encouraged to spend as much time with the patient as they desire.
Outpatient Care — The Outpatient Cancer TreatmentCenter provides chemotherapy treatments, blood and blood component therapy, immunotherapy, nutritional support therapy, intravenous antibiotic therapy, as well as referrals for radiation therapy, emotional support, spiritual support and counseling, case management and patient/family education. Services are offered weekdays from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., with weekend availability on an as needed basis.
