| |
The
surgical and therapeutic management of hand injuries and
conditions has become a specialized area of medicine and
therapy. A hand therapist treats patients with a variety
of upper extremity disorders including those with:
|
| |
- Fractures
of the upper extremity
- Tendon
injuries
- Nerve
injuries
- Amputation
of the fingers, hands or arms
- Burns
- Arthritis
and connective tissue disorders
- Repetitive
motion disorders such as tennis elbow and carpal tunnel
syndrome
- Joint
replacements and joint fusions
- Complex
regional pain syndrome
|
| |
Hand
therapists are qualified to address all of the needs of
the upper extremity, including the elbow and shoulder, to
achieve the highest level of function. Hand therapists work
with the patient to provide a continuum of care. This often
starts within days of the injury or surgery until the patient
is able to return to work and/or a productive lifestyle.
