Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.
Berkeley Relay For Life Scheduled This Weekend
Martinsburg, W.Va. – Opening Ceremonies for this year’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Berkeley County will be Saturday, June 5th at noon at Martinsburg High School’s Cobourn Field. In Berkeley County and nearly 5,100 other communities around the globe, Relay For Life unites people to celebrate the lives of those who have faced cancer, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease.
“Cancer touches everyone and involvement in Relay For Life is an effective way for individuals,
companies and organizations to demonstrate their commitment to the fight against cancer
by partnering with the American Cancer Society to help save lives and create a world with
less cancer and more birthdays,” stated Liz Oates, ACS Relay For Life of Berkeley County corporate sponsor retention chair.
Relay For Life, the world’s largest grassroots fundraising movement, continues to grow. This year’s Relay goal in Berkeley County is $330,000. Relay For Life brings together friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, faith-based groups . . . people from all walks of life – all aimed at furthering the American Cancer Society’s efforts to save lives by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back.
“Relay For Life is truly a community event,” commented Missy Elkins, event chair. “Without the support of our community, the American Cancer Society would not be able to achieve its mission,” she added. Dollars raised through Relay For Life are used for the American Cancer Society's research, education, advocacy and service programs.
The American Cancer Society save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; by helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight.
