RANSON, W.Va. – Jefferson Memorial Hospital’s intensive care unit is moving to a new location and getting a new name. Hospital officials announced today that on Tuesday, June 1, the unit will reopen on the hospital’s second floor as the special care unit (SCU).
Vacant space on the second floor was recently renovated to house the new 5-bed SCU. According to Nurse Manager Sandra Martin, RN, the level of care and staffing ratios will remain the same.
Martin is expecting the move to take several hours to all day, depending on the number of patients in the unit on Tuesday. “We will be moving one patient up to the second floor at a time as the cardiac monitors are transferred,” she said, adding that it is possible that patients will be in both locations during the day on Tuesday.
“We are excited about the move and feel that the new unit will benefit our patients and provide a great working environment for our staff,” she commented.
