Aging Athlete Topic of Community Seminar

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - West Virginia University Hospitals-East and the WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center Eastern Division will sponsor a community mini-medical school program titled The Aging Athlete.

The program will be held on Tuesday, February 16 in the WVU Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center on the City Hospital campus.  The public is invited to attend this mini-medical school program to learn about how older adults can prevent injuries while exercising, playing sports and working.
 
Russell DeGroote, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at City Hospital and the Center for Orthopedic Excellence, will be the guest speaker.  DeGroote specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, knee and carpal tunnel, and also has a special interest in preventative medicine, nutrition and sports medicine.  His sub-specialty is treating the high performance aging athlete utilizing stem cells, prp, and hormone optimization. 
 
Sign-in for the community mini-medical school program begins at 6:30 pm, with the program to follow from 7 – 8 pm.  Light refreshments will be served following the presentation.

This community mini-medical school program is being offered free to the public as a community service of WVUH-East and the WVU Health Sciences Center Eastern Division.  Reservations are strongly recommended.  For more information or to register for this program, phone 304-264-1287, ext. 1760.
