The full-service, inpatient pharmacy department at Jefferson Memorial Hospital works in collaboration with other members of the health care team to provide quality pharmaceutical care and drug therapy for patients. Pharmacists actively participate in drug therapy decisions and monitoring.

The pharmacy department is able to ensure the integrity and security of medications through state of the art automated dispensing machines known as Pyxis â MedStations. The automated dispensing machines are equipped with fingerprint recognition that allows for the removal of medi-cation for administration to a patient. By limiting access to medications, the dispensing machines are valuable medication safety tools.

Members of the pharmacy department team are committed to providing drug therapy education to health care professionals, patients, and the community. Pharmacists provide drug information to health care professionals, including physicians, through educational inservices, newsletters, and one-on-one discussions. When requested by either the patient or another member of the health care team, pharmacists review medication information with patients. Active involvement in health fairs, education classes, and community outreach programs allows the pharmacists to provide education to the community on drug therapy for various diseases.
