Children admitted
to this unit are treated for a wide variety of acute and chronic
illnesses. Treatment is multi-disciplinary and family centered.
Registered Nurses with a broad base of pediatric knowledge
apply principles of child growth and development to manage
daily patient care. Pediatric nurses are required to be certified
in Pediatric Advanced Life Support. The nurse plays a strong
role in patient advocacy, patient and family teaching, counseling,
and discharge planning |

Parents
are encouraged to participate in their child's care and
spend the night at their child's bedside if they choose.
Each patient room is equipped with one sleeping chair. Siblings
are welcome to visit with adult supervision. Visitors in
good health are welcome to visit for short periods during
the day until 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are welcome to
visit, but if they have an illness that might spread to
other children, it is best they do not visit.

such as: favorite blanket, videotape, book or toy, crayons,
pens, or stationary, pictures of family and friends |
